Dear Parents and Carers,
As we wrap up another fantastic term at Wilston Primary School, we want to take a moment to celebrate our students' hard work, enthusiasm, and remarkable achievements throughout semester 1. Parents will have received student report cards. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to analyse our overall semester 1 performance and am pleased to report, once again, very high numbers of students achieving As and Bs. Well done to all students for your learning efforts this semester. Sincere thanks to all our teachers and support staff for their work in creating the learning environment where our students can shine and succeed.
Our recent Sports Carnivals were nothing short of spectacular! Students from all grades showcased their sporting talents, resilience, and a healthy competitive spirit. The atmosphere at both carnivals was great, filled with cheers from proud parents, staff and enthusiastic classmates. Congratulations to all participants for their incredible performances, and a special shout-out to the age champions.
In addition to our athletic successes, the fabulous Wilston Wonders choir put on a wonderful performance at the Choral Fanfare Final last week, with Mrs Charters conducting. Our young singers captivated everyone with their beautiful harmonies and infectious enthusiasm. Their rendition of a number of songs was met with rousing applause and cheers from the audience. It is always heart warming to see our students express their creativity and passion through music.
Over the last few days, it has been a joy to see the hall being utilised for assembly, classroom music, PE, and for the first time this week, play activities for the year 5 and 6 students. They are all clearly thrilled at being able to play in there.
As we prepare to head into the holiday break, we want to say a huge thank you to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and, of course, our talented students for making this semester so memorable. We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable break, and that our families take time to connect with each other and with favourite holiday activities.
I think that’s all for now. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 14 July.
Warm regards and take care Wilston
Michael Sawbridge
Principal

Honours Music Students Shine at Workshop
Nine of Wilston State School’s most advanced strings and band students attended the Northside Honours Music Workshop this week. The workshop was held at Wavell State High School and they rehearsed in a large string ensemble or concert band for 3 days. The band students worked with expert conductor Ed Kennedy and the strings were led by the very experienced Mark Sullivan. The workshop culminated in a concert for parents. The students presented themselves beautifully over the 3 days and learned so much from the experience. Congratulations Grace, Tori, Sandy, Maya, Mya, Mette, Jessica, Amelia and Ethan.

Parents, over the holidays, please check student library bags to ensure they are clean, secure and waterproof for borrowing in the term ahead. We have had several books ruined by water damage this term, including class readers. All students from Prep- Year 6 should have a book bag to borrow from our library. Please also take the opportunity to locate any missing books to return to our library. Thank you for your help!
Triple P’s tips for reframing daily challenges
Let’s face it – parenting can feel like a juggling act, can’t it? Toddlers fighting bedtime, school-aged children wanting more screen time, teens rolling their eyes at chores – it’s enough to make you wonder, “Why can’t they just help out a little?”
One approach that works wonders: routines. Kids thrive on consistency – it gives them a sense of security and makes cooperation come more naturally. A predictable bedtime routine, for instance, can take some of the stress out of the nightly ritual.
Finding balance also helps – try thinking of it as a mindset rather than an even split. It’s not about doing everything perfectly, but making choices that feel right for you and your family. Give yourself permission to embrace imperfection – and the resulting boost to your wellbeing!
Oh, and screens? They’re part of our world now. While setting boundaries is wise, screens can be tools for learning, connecting, and even having fun. With some practical tips, you can learn how to manage kids’ screen time to support mental health, promote safety, and encourage positive digital habits in today’s tech-driven world.
The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program can help you handle the ups and downs of parenting more calmly and confidently.

We're reached the end of Semester 1 already, and what a year it's shaping up to be! The P&C wants to thank all of its volunteers and new members for joining the fun in making Wilston State School a great place to be for all of our children and community. We've done a lot of fun things already this year and there's more on its way starting in Term 3.
Semester 2 will bring with it a lot of activity and opportunities to get involved and mix it up with parent peers old and new. The biggest event of the second half of the year will be the Wilston Fete! Keep your eyes peeled on communication from school about donations, raffles and opportunities to join the fun as a stall volunteer. Special thanks go to Kathryn O'Hara from the office for assisting the P&C in keeping our communications landing safely in your inboxes!
If you're doing some spring cleaning (in winter) this holidays, check our list of requested donations for books, soft toys and other goods that were listed in the Fete news on Monday 23 June. Got questions? Email us fete@wilstonpandc.org.au or drop by our social pages on facebook or instagram.
