As Term 3 comes to a close, we are filled with pride at the learning experiences that both students and teachers have been able to participate in here at Wilston State School. None of this would be possible without the dedication of staff and the wonderful partnership we have with our P&C, P&C Business Units and families.
Teaching and Learning
Parent Teacher Interviews - This week, our teachers have been conducting Parent-Teacher Interviews, a process that continues to be strongly supported by our parent community. This teamwork is vital for ensuring that we are providing the best possible support for all our students.
Planning Days – Over the past two weeks, every teacher has participated in a dedicated planning day. These sessions provided an opportunity to work closely with our Head of Curriculum, Beth Cooper, to unpack the Term 4 curriculum expectations. From this collaborative work, teachers are developing their weekly and daily plans to support student success across all learning areas. Importantly, these daily plans are continually adapted to suit the learning needs of students in each class, providing both enrichment and targeted support where required.
This focused planning supports our commitment to high-quality teaching and student success.
Student Opportunities – We have seen some of our students engage in exciting enrichment opportunities, including our Market Day, Maths Tournament, APSMO Olympiad and the Science Competition. These events have been incredibly successful, providing our students with valuable experiences that go beyond the classroom. These events are an important part of our school culture, offering opportunities for students to develop essential skills such as collaboration, communication, and perseverance. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing their continued growth.
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to our dedicated teachers who have supported and guided these endeavours. Their commitment to providing these enriching opportunities is invaluable.
Facilities
We would like to sincerely thank the P&C for the ongoing support of our school facilities through generous funding. Your contributions have made a significant impact.
Thanks to the leadership of Bek Dixon and her dedicated team, along with some financial assistance from the P&C, we have been able to achieve some great improvements and developments so far in 2025. Your support plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-equipped environment for our students and staff.
The asbestos was successfully removed from D block and we have had full clearance for the hygienist.

Looking Ahead
If you are leaving our school at the end of the year and are not returning in 2026, please complete the form below so we can accurately prepare class lists.
Term 4 is a time when we start to plan ahead for the upcoming school year. When considering class groupings, we aim to meet the social, emotional and learning needs of all our students. All teachers (who know our students very well) and admin meet regularly to consider student placement into classes. Please email your child's teacher if there is information that you feel we are not aware of, that is of relevance to class placement.
We’re thrilled to share that in 2026, Wilston will be staging our very own school musical!
The musical will take place in Term 3 of 2026, with the cast made up of Year 5 and 6 students. While the performance will be led by these year levels, we want the whole school involved – from advertising and marketing to prop and set creation. This will give our younger students something to look forward to when it’s their turn in Year 5 and 6.
The official show title will be revealed at the end of Talent Show in Term 4!

Northside Junior Strings Workshop
On the 1st and 2nd of September, 27 of Wilston's Year 4 string students attended the Northside Beginner String Workshop at Windsor State School. During the workshop, the students formed a super orchestra consisting of players from over 10 schools. Many students were amazed at listening to the huge sound of an orchestra with well over 100 players. They learned five new string ensemble pieces which were then performed in a concert at the end of the two days. Students worked hard with lots of sight reading, new note learning, new techniques and working with many new conductors and string tutors. One student remarked that he thought it was the longest he had ever consecutively played his instrument! After surveying many of the students, Mrs Payne found that the favourite string pieces were Cowboy Lane and First Finger Rock. As well as performing in the string orchestra, the children also formed a massed choir. They worked with the energetic choral conductor, Ms Anese, to learn three new choral pieces which were all performed enthusiastically at the final concert. Overall, this experience was really rewarding both musically and socially for the students, and although I am sure they all went home exhausted, it was with happy smiles and memories.

# Thursday and Friday classes may change during the first 3 weeks due to Gala Days.
The 2025 Summer Gala Days will commence next term with our Year 5 and 6 students participating across three dates, 10, 17 and 24 October with 31 October being a wet weather backup date (not that we will need it). A consent form has been sent out and we ask you to attend to it as soon as you are able.
Training for the Gala Days commenced Wednesday 10 September 2025, the training schedule can be viewed below. Any enquiries regarding training should be directed to the individual coach. Please ensure students have all of their protective equipment during training.
As you would have seen in the previous newsletter, QParents has a new ‘announcement’ feature. We will be using this feature to broadcast immediate messages (eg buses returning late, training cancelled due to weather, etc). This means that you do not need to join the Gala Day Sport group in Schoolzine as QParents will replace this functionality. For those families that do not have QParents we will send you any Gala Day communication via email.
The end of Term 3 is here and what a massive term it was! All of our volunteers stepped up this term - we couldn't be prouder of our community and your energy and commitment. Over 160 volunteers brought our fete to life, 12 volunteers helped at the Father's Day Stall. We had new helpers at the tuckshop and plenty of familiar faces back to support Lyndall too.
Thanks once again for your community support and connection with all of the P&C activities over this term, including the headline events:
- the official opening of our Assembly Hall (and the incredible P&C sound system finally being powered up);
- our long awaited, out-of-this-world, epic school fete;
- the blockbuster two-day Father's Day stall; and
- completion of Stage 1 of the Prep Playground reboot.
Together, we raised over $58,000 in Term 3, all of which will be directly invested into infrastructure that benefits the whole school. Stage 2 of the Prep playground will begin in Term 4, and we couldn't be more excited!
If you're looking for holiday activities for your littles, our WKC Vacation Care Program is filling up quickly! Book the kids in for a day or two, they'll have an engaging and inspiring day with our educators. It's shaping up as another bumper holiday schedule. If you prefer to add water, the Wilston Crocs will be running holiday programs as the weather warms up - look for holiday events and sign up info on the Crocs Facebook page.
As we gratefully have a break for a couple of weeks with our families, before some key seasonal P&C events next term, we take this opportunity to thank the community once again for your involvement and participation. Together, we will continue to build a stronger and happier school environment for all Wilston kids.
Have a great holiday, see you in October!
