Author Visit – Tristan Bancks
We are so excited to have an award-winning author come to speak to our students in years 3-6 next Thursday! Tristan Bancks’ books are extremely popular in our library, and he is also a very engaging and interesting presenter. If you wish to purchase a signed book for your student, please click on the link below:
Book Week is nearly here!
The library is beginning to look very colourful with displays inspired by the theme and the shortlisted books.
Children are reading and voting on their favourite books in the CBCA Book of the Year competition. Some of these stories can be viewed on Story Box Library using our Wilston community subscription. Story Box Library (Username WSS4051, Password SBL1234)
This morning on Junior Assembly, Mr Sawbridge read a delightful book from the Early Childhood category called Don’t Worry Felix by Yohann Devezy and Katharine Alice. This reassuring book helps children deal with feelings of anxiety. Please enjoy the story read aloud by storyteller, Tab Sejoe on Story Box Library: Don't Worry Felix
Dress Up Day Tuesday 19 August
Do you have costumes ready for Book Week dress up day? Students and staff will come to school dressed as a favourite book character. Sometimes it is helpful for a child to carry the book or have a small note attached or lanyard so that the character is easily identifiable. The Book Week assembly will begin at 9.00am. Parents, come along and celebrate with us!
Poem in Your Pocket Day 22 August
All students and staff will celebrate poetry by coming to school with a short poem in their pocket. This can be an original poem or one copied from a book or online. They will recite or read their poems to each other during the day during breaks.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
While Paterson is still leading, our interhouse competition is currently too close to call! Every child in the school who has returned a completed form so far has earned a point for their house. We still have room for more names.
While reader record forms are due by the end of Book Week, please send in completed forms as soon as possible so we can update our board. An electronic copy of the recording sheet is available here if a new form is required:
Creative Competitions – We have been promoting some creative Book Week competitions at school. Please submit all entries by Friday 15 August.
Prep-Yr2 children can collect a sheet from their classroom or the library to create a colourful, beetle with symmetrical designs.
Yr3-Yr6 children can create a Story Jar based on a favourite book.
