LIBRARY NEWS

Book Week 2025 is coming!

Book_Week.png

The theme this year is Book an Adventure!

Now is the time to start thinking of favourite book characters and planning a costume for our dress-up day. By week 6, the library will be decorated with displays inspired by the shortlisted books and the adventurous theme. Children will also be voting on their favourite shortlisted books in the CBCA Book of the Year competition.

Key Dates:

Tuesday 19 August: Dress-Up Day and Book Week Assembly 9am Students and staff will come to school dressed as a favourite book character. Sometimes it is helpful for a child to carry the book or have a small note attached so that the character is easily identifiable. The Book Week Assembly will begin at 9am in the school hall. Parents, please feel free to come along and celebrate with us!

Friday 22 August: Poem in Your Pocket Day This fun day is a celebration of rhyme and recital! All students and staff will celebrate poetry by coming to school with a short poem in their pocket. This can be an original poem, or one copied from a book or online. They will recite or read their poems to each other during the day.

Premier’s Reading Challenge – Forms due 22 August

Our interhouse Premier’s Reading Challenge is creating a buzz around the library as children keep popping in to see the updates! Last year Paterson house won the reading shield, and they are already early favourites to defend their title!

Each time a student completes a reading record form, a square is added to the appropriate house sports shirt in the library. While all forms are due by the end of Book Week (Friday 22 August), please encourage your children to hand them as soon as they are finished so their efforts can be counted.  An electronic copy of the recording sheet is available here, if a new form is required:

Don’t forget that audio books, graphic novels, magazines, recipe books and manuals can all be counted. Prep-Year 2 students can also count books read aloud to them by others.
