Dear Parents and Carers,

By the time you read this, the students in Year 5 and 6 will have enjoyed their first Gala Day of the year. I had the pleasure of accompanying the boys’ football teams and we all had a great day, despite a bit of showery weather. I hope the Year 4 students had a good experience back at school, learning some new skills with Mr Bell.

Week 6 started with assembly for students in Years 4 – 6. This assembly, led by Mr Sheil and Mrs Gibbs, marked National Sorry Day and our commitment to continue to strive together to achieve reconciliation.

Recently, I had my first opportunity to spend some time at the Wilston Annual Trivia Night. Wow! What a spectacular event this is. Congratulations to the P&C on hosting such a wonderful night, and special mention to chief coordinator, Rachelle Willington, for doing such a great job leading the team.

Last week, our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students celebrated Under Eights Week along with National Simultaneous Storytime.  With the theme “Unleashing Scientific Thinking Through Play” the students moved through a range of activities designed and setup by our creative and supportive teaching team.

The hall is very near completion now, and you will have noticed that the grass has been laid on the oval. It is really looking impressive now and we are very excited about taking ownership very soon. Next week, the demountable toilets will be extracted from our school site and the students will have partial access to the hall to use the toilets. Full access to the hall will follow in the following days. How exciting for Wilston SS!

Next Friday, we will celebrate Queensland Day and will have some special activities.  Dress code for the day is MAROON - school shoes, school shorts/skorts and maroon shirts!  If you don't have a maroon shirt (and are unable to source one before Friday) please just wear your brown/gold school shirt.  Let's fill our school with maroon, brown and gold!
