FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Mike.jpg

Dear Parents and Carers,

The P&C Association hosted its May meeting last night and it was great to see so many attendees, with some familiar faces and some new faces in attendance. Once again, we had some really open discussions around a range of topics. As principal, I would like to express my appreciation for the ongoing support of the P&C Association at Wilston State School. All the very best to the P&C for a successful Trivia Night on 17th May!

At our assembly today, we had the opportunity to say farewell to our esteemed music teacher, Mrs Miranda Charters. Our choirs gave her the perfect send off with some beautiful performances. I know Mrs Charters appreciated the attendance of so many parents. We wish Mrs Charters all the very best in her new position.

As mentioned on assembly, it is likely that this will be our final whole school assembly in the undercover area. Our next whole school assembly, later this term, will be an opportunity to utilise the new hall for this event. We are all very excited about that.

This morning, it was lovely to see so many students walk to school as part of National Walk to School Day. Shout out to the P&C and Tuckshop for organising the fruit that we are able to give to students on arrival.

Next Wednesday is Under 8's Day at Wilston State School. We look forward to celebrating early childhood play and education with our young students and teachers. Thanks to the teachers involved for organising and hosting this event for the children. On the same day, May 21st, it is also National Simultaneous Storytime, when students and children across the country have the opportunity to share and enjoy the recently published picture book “The Truck Cat” by Deborah Frenkel. It is a beautiful tale. Themes of loneliness, identity and connection are explored through the eyes of Tinka, the Truck Cat. Our teacher Librarian, Mrs Burgess, is very excited about the opportunity to share this story with the school. WE are looking forward to a great 5th week of term 2.

I think that’s all for now. Take care Wilston.

Warm regards,

Michael Sawbridge
