FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers,

Apologies for the delay in our newsletter. We were focused on the impacts of the recent cyclone! Fortunately, the damage at school was very negligible and we were only closed for a relatively short period. I know other schools which delayed opening to much later in the week. Some of our families and staff were more seriously affected, so if there is anything that we can do as a school community, then please don’t hesitate to reach out. On Monday, when we opened only practically, we welcomed 26 students.

In week 8, I will be attending the Year 6 camp at Mapleton. School camps are a fabulous opportunity to further strengthen relationships between students and between students and staff. The students will enjoy a variety of activities, including the (in)famous Mud Challenge. They will have time to build new friendships as well as enjoying the company of well established ‘besties’ throughout the camp. I want to acknowledge and thank the P&C Executive for being willing to reschedule the March meeting to week 9 – much appreciated!

Back at school, our teachers are busy catching up with assessments as Term 1 draws to a conclusion. Year 3 and 5 students will sit the annual NAPLAN tests in Week 8. NAPLAN is an important indicator of individual student progression and of school performance. Wilston students typically perform extraordinarily well on NAPLAN, so we look forward to some outstanding results again in 2025. All the very best to our Year 3 and 5 students. Teachers will also be participating in their term planning days in the final weeks of this term so for one day only, your child’s class will be taught by one of our regular and familiar relief teachers.

Following NAPLAN, the Year 5 students are going to the Planetarium to see a show called ‘Spacebot’ as part of the World Science Festival.

I think that’s all for now.

Take care Wilston
